When you do this you reduce the probabilities and possibilities of becoming inflicted with an eczema flare up. This article will speak of ways that you can reduce the level of latent inflammation that lays within your body.

Fruit and Vegetables

You have heard it being said time and again that you should eat green leafy vegetables because they are high in anti-oxidants. This is true, but if you are serious about lowering the amount of inflammation that resides inside your body, you will look to getting your anti-oxidants from more reliable sources.

The reason I say this is because the soils around the world are very much depleted, and you can not be absolutely sure if you are getting any nutrients at all by eating the fruit and vegetables. Also if you are getting them in these foods, it is likely that you are not getting enough.

I am not trying to exaggerate the situation, and I am not trying to be funny when I say that you can eat a pick up truck load of green leafy vegetables, and not get the necessary amount of anti-oxidants that you will need for the day. That is why you will want to pay respects to the fresh fruit and vegetables, but at the same time you will want to get your anti-oxidants from food supplements.

Fatty

You will also want to make absolutely certain that your body is amply fortified with the amount of fatty acids that it needs to reduce the rate of inflammation.

A few years ago it was noised abroad that people were eating too much fats, and that a reduction in the amount of fat consumed would make the world a better place to be. After hearing this advice, people listened to it, and everyone generally obeyed it, and stopped consuming so much fat.

Not long after this it was recognized that people were becoming sicker with different diseases, eczema being one of them. Research was done into the situation, and it was decided the absence of fats is what was making people become sicklier. Not only the absence of fats, but the absence of a particular kind of fat was the source of the problem.

It was found that the kind of fats that you need which will help with reducing inflammation factors are omega-3 fatty acids, which when balanced with the more commonly found omega-6 fatty acids is able to reduce the factors of inflammation considerably so that people armed with this information are having less problems from eczema.

PIH is a problem for some people with eczema. It causes the skin in areas that were inflamed to become a darker skin color than your regular skin hue. PIH can be colored from a slightly darker tinted hue all the way to a darker grey dirty looking brown color. This article will talk about PIH and 2 treatments for it.

Hydroquinone

The more popular treatment for PIH had been hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is a drug that was successful at reducing the rate at which the skin’s melanin cells produced melanin. Melanin is the dye or pigment that gives your skin its color.

What happens in cases of PIH is that the inflammation from the eczema had damaged the melanin cells, and they then produce an off colored pigment or skin color.

Whatever color pigment that the melanin cells produce, is the color that your skin will be. When hydroquinone was being used the drug was usually able to clear up the effects of PIH in less than a year, depending upon the severity of the case. However, the use of the drug has been banned in Europe, Australia and Japan. There are 4 problems that they say they have with hydroquinone.

They say that people who use the drug have higher levels of mercury in their bodies than people who do not use hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is also suspected of causing poisoning in the unborn children of pregnant women. Another danger that is attributed to hydroquinone use is the increased probability of having adrenal glands that function abnormally.

A fifth claim that hydroquinone use causes cancer is denied by researchers at the American Academy of Dermatology. Their claim is that the process of study related to cancer was flawed. They suggest that the cancer experiments were done on laboratory rats that were fed unusually high amounts of the drug for a very long period of time. Furthermore, they stand behind the drug saying that all of the claims are unfounded, and that once the drug is used according to instructions, it is safe for use.

Newer treatments

Since hydroquinone has been banned, the combination of mequinol and tretinoin are being more popularly used for the treatment of PIH. It is not a new treatment in that it was recently discovered, but it is new because it is replacing the other drug that people have come to fear.

Mequinol 2% and tretinoin 0.01% is a mixture that was used for a while to treat PIH in darker skinned people. However, now that hydroquinone is banned its use is becoming less specialized.

Skin rashes and reddish color of skin is very common in Eczema. Crusting and itching, oozing and sometimes bleeding also occur in Eczema. Swelling is the most important characteristic of the disease which can be seen every time in Eczema. Various synonyms are also used to describe the disease and each has their own conditions and treatment ways. There are many types of Eczema few of which are very popular and common while other are not that much common. Some of the most common types of Eczema include Atopic eczema, contact dermatitis, Xerotic eczema, Seborrhoeic dermatitis. There are various other less common types as well.

Atopic Eczema:

The atopic eczema is most often observed in children of age 5 or less. Other names which are used for the atopic eczema are dermatitis and simply eczema.

Symptoms of Atopic Eczema:

1. Itchy Skin:
The skin gets extremely itchy in eczema and the child of the adult is completely unable to rest and relax. Face and scalp are the mostly targeted areas of children where red patches of atopic eczema can be observed.

This sort of skin disorder mainly occurs in children. It affects the trunk, folds of armpits, knees, face, and elbows of infants. It is highly important to consult your dermatologist when you find symptoms like blisters or pus on the skin that lasts for several weeks.

Various types of eczema include:

1. Allergic contact eczema
2. Atopic dermatitis

Almost 10 to 20 percent of all babies in the United States of America are affected by the dreaded skin problem called eczema. Baby eczema is one of the pre-dominant conditions which is making the rounds over the past few decades. But most of the baby eczema conditions become resolved by the time the baby reaches the age of 2 years. There are a few cases which are spaced out far and between where the baby eczema problem becomes chronic and continues well into adulthood.

The most common condition of eczema which affects babies is atopic eczema. In this case, the skin becomes dry and reddish due to incessant itching. The babies develop scaly skin on the scalp, arms, face and the legs. This is a very painful condition in which sometimes, the entire body of the baby may get affected by eczematous lesions. Baby eczema occurs due to myriad reasons, primary among which are genetic problems, allergy to some types of clothing, food habits and the like.

When the skin of the baby is badly moisturized, then symptoms of baby eczema may develop. Also, if the temperature is too extreme, then the sensitive skin of the baby faces problems in acclimatizing to it. There are some cases, which are few, in which there is link between giving up on breastfeeding at a very early stage and eczema. The majority of baby eczema cases are supposed to be an extension of food allergies. In these cases, the digestive system of the baby is not able to handle certain food items and thus develops this condition.

If your baby has been diagnosed with eczema, then a safe solution is to eliminate the foods which pose problems in the digestive system. Some of the commonly implicated food items are peanuts, milk, eggs, wheat and fish. Of course, it has not been scientifically proved that there is a direct co-relation between the two but it has been observed that a controlled diet usually prevents baby eczema. There are a few cases also in which infants develop eczema when they wear clothes which have been treated with detergents or clothes softeners.

Though there are no proven methods of treatment, some of the generally effective methods include bathing the baby in lukewarm water and keeping the skin moisturized. Wearing light clothes which help in ventilation also helps to some extent.

Dyshidrotic eczema is a condition in which the hands and the feet are the primary areas which get affected. In most of the cases, the feet and hands develop painful rashes and the skin becomes red and sore due to incessant itching. It is a chronic condition in which tiny bubble-like vessels and lesions appear on the skin and are filled with water. The palms and soles of the feet are the most heavily affected regions while in some severe cases, the tips of fingers and toes also develop vessels and lesions. In most cases of dyshidrotic eczema, hands and feet are the only affected regions.

Dyshidrotic eczema mostly affects people in the middle years of their life. This condition is equally distributed among men and women and it is not restricted to any particular age-group. Generally, places which have a warm climate tend to have more eczema patients. The United States almost has 20% of its entire eczema suffering population under the effect of dyshidrotic eczema.

Most people believe that eczema is a continuation of faulty sweat glands but it isn’t so. Scientists have not been able to pin-point the exact cause for this form of eczema but it is believed that a number of factors are contributors. Most of the people who suffer from this condition are found to have a history with atopic eczema or some type of allergic condition such as hay fever. Eczema may be triggered by multiple reasons, among which fungal infections are primary. There are also some metals which are known to affect people. Nickel is one of the leading causes of this eczema. Most people come to know of their antagonistic reactions to nickel only after adverse effects with jewelry. Few cases have also been reported in which emotional stress has been the primary cause for dyshidrotic eczema.

Generally, this condition resolves in a couple of weeks. You may get some relief from this painful problem through application of dermal creams and ointments. Antibiotics are also recommended by doctors to prevent bacterial infections from escalating. Mostly, medical practitioners advise oral steroids which are pretty effective in curing dyshidrotic eczema. In some rare cases, the vessels may combine together to form bigger lesions. When this happens, you have to get them drained using aluminum acetate compresses.

The word eczema is most commonly confused with a single skin disease which it is not. It is in fact a group of skin problems which are characterized by the presence of inflammation and irritation on the skin of the affected individual. There are a number of eczema types but the most common of the lot is atopic eczema. It generally affects children below the age of 7 years. Almost 1 out of every 6 children is affected by this skin problem. But most of them get rid of this problem long before they traverse their teenage years.

The three types of eczema are allergic to contact eczema, irritant contact eczema and finally atopic eczema. All these eczema types have different symptoms associated with them. For instance, the condition of atopic eczema is characterized by red and dry skin, continuous itching of the affected parts, blisters filled with water found all over the body and the like. There are some areas of the body which get really affected by atopic eczema. Back of the knees, front parts of the elbows, neck, face and chest are primarily the main regions where atopic eczema has a strong effect. This skin problem is not contagious and people should be well-informed about the same.

The reason why atopic eczema occurs has not been deciphered totally as yet but ongoing studies seem to suggest that genetics might play an important role in the occurrence of the disease. Certain medical practitioners tend to believe that the condition is caused by the body’s allergic reaction to some chemical compound. Some of these allergens are generally found in food items like eggs, milk, soya and peanuts. Some of the other causes for atopic eczema include allergens found in flower pollen, dust mites and pet hair. Certain medicines which might work absolutely fine for one individual might cause allergic reactions in other people. Basically these allergens which activate the person’s reaction are labeled as atopics. The reaction is initiated in the body of the individual when he/she comes in contact with the chemical. Some of the factors which can act as a complementing factor to this problem are found to be stress and genetic problems. These factors can result in accelerating the condition to such levels that the person might be forced to take sedatives and immediate treatment.

The roots of eczema are not fully clear, but some people have found that by eliminating contact with certain chemicals , foods and environmental factors that there skin rash will improve. Our bodies absorb through the skin which is why the nicotine patch and hormone patches are effective.

What are some common chemicals and triggers that may result in atopic eczema or other forms of dermatitis? Do you know if you may be exposing yourself daily to substances that cause or aggravate your skin problem?

Some people have an allergic reaction to fragrances. This can include perfumes, fabric softeners, bath oils and popular cleaning products. If you are reluctant to eliminate fragrances altogether, seek out alternatives from the natural food stores that are hypoallergenic.

In addition to fragrances, some people have reactions due to factors in the environment that contact their skin. This can include sodium lauryl sulfate, compounds in detergents and also nickel and other metals that may come in contact with the skin. There have been articles recently about dermatitis on the skin due to cell phone nickel responses.

Fortunately there are alternatives to harsh cleaning and laundry detergents including castile soaps such as dr. bronners, miracle ii soap or making your own mixtures with baking soda, lemon juice and vinegar to complete many common household tasks. By using natural products, you limit the risk of having an allergic reaction that can manifest as atopic eczema or another form of dermatitis.

Be conscious of the furniture polishes, floor cleaners and products you use in your home for both cleaning and bathing. Research the ingredients to see if they may be common allergens.

Atopic eczema or eczema that is caused by inhalant allergy is the most prevalent form of the disease. You can spend your entire life trying to treat the disease by using various forms of steroid creams, pills, and lotions. Or you can do what I did, which is take charge of your disease and beat it once and for all. I am going to explain to you how I finally beat eczema without the use of any prescription drug and without the use of any more steroids.

About 20 years ago I was first diagnosed with atopic eczema. The doctor immediately sent my parents to the pharmacy to pick up what was then a cutting edge steroid. The idea was to help stop the itch and give my body the chance to heal itself. Of course, if you are experiencing eczema then you probably know how the story goes. It worked for a short period of time, but then ceased to be effective and the eczema came back even worse than before. This process was repeated many times and each time a new version of steroid treatment was prescribed and each time my eczema got better and then came back again.

It wasn’t until a little over year ago that someone introduced to me the idea of treating my eczema holistically. The idea was to treat the cause and not just the symptoms. While this idea had occurred to me many times during my twenty year struggle with the disease, I had never been presented with a plan to actually make it work.

Well here is the gist of what I learned. Atopic eczema is caused by things we inhale. To put it in simpler terms, pollens, dusts and mold spores are most likely causing your outbreaks. For me, a year round pollinating tree was the cause. When I inhaled these pollens my body looked for the easiest route to get rid of them, which happens to be our skin. As the toxins were expelled, my body’s natural defense was to release histamines which then caused an outbreak.

I finally beat atopic eczema by using a combination of foods and supplements which allows my body to rid itself of these toxins through means other than my skin. It’s not rocket science, it’s just a matter of knowing the quantity and time to take the supplements and eat the foods. Eczema is a treatable disease, but you have to go after more than just the symptoms if you want to be eczema free.

What is Eczema?

Eczema is a skin condition that causes inflammation of the skin and can affect all age groups especially children. There are varying degrees of severity from mild forms where the skin is dry, hot and itchy to severe forms where the skin can become raw, broken and bleed.

What Causes Eczema?

There are many eczema causes and it depends on the type of eczema a person has. Atopic eczema seems to be genetically linked and sufferers are sensitive to allergens in the environment which other people are not. This causes the immune system to react producing inflamed, sore and irritated skin. Other types of eczema are caused by irritants such as chemicals and detergents, allergens such as jewelry irritants, and stress.

How do I know if I have Eczema?

Because Eczema is very individualized it is sometimes hard to tell if you have eczema or not. It typically appears on the tender areas of elbows, knees, wrists and neck. In cases especially seen in children it can cover the whole body and face. Hot itchy dry skin is the main symptom. The itching can lead to scratching which will damage the skin and cause bleeding. The dry skin can also crack making movement difficult and sore. Eczema often improves with children as they grow older, although it can reappear at any time and can move in cycles.

How Can You Manage Eczema?

There are many ways to treat the symptoms of Eczema, the foundation of which is an effective skin routine. There are also pills or creams available over the counter, or from your doctor. These can often be strong causing harmful side effects and are not recommended for children. However, there are many ways to minimize the discomfort and distress using natural therapies that a lot of people prefer. These range from diet changes to using natural oils on the affected areas.

When you suffer from eczema and want to get rid of it, it can be tempting to shower frequently or take a couple of baths a day. This is not the best approach as drying out the skin and stripping it’s natural oils will only aggravate the eczema condition. How should you care for you skin when it is broken out in red patches and eruptions due to dermatitis?

First of all, you should not neglect showering or bathing in order to preserve the body’s natural oil composition. However, it is best to take brief showers using warm or tepid water, rather than hot water. When you are in the shower or bath, use a soap made for sensitive skin problems. This often will state that it is dermatologist recommended. It is fine to use natural oils in the bath such as olive oil or coconut oil, but don’t add in bath oils as they may have fragrances or chemicals that can increase the rash and spread it.

Be sure to not rub the skin hard with a wash cloth and definitely refrain from using a loofah brush on the body. Gentleness is important with eczema to assist the healing process. Putting oatmeal into the bath is good for your skin and will reduce the itching from atopic, contact dermatitis, nummular eczema and other related problems. As a side note, try to gather this up as you drain the tub to not clog anything.

After the shower or bath, put on a moisturizer or use a natural oil immediately while your skin is still slightly wet. Moisturize again a second time during the day as well. Proper cleansing of the skin is important to prevent bacterial infections (especially if someone is scratching). However, keep the showers or baths brief so your skin will stay hydrated.

Nummular Eczema still perplexes doctors as to its origin. As with all eczemas, the common denominator is that the parents are prone to allergies like hay fever. When an outbreak begins, it will start as a group a tiny read spots and lesions that will enlarge and come together in the shape of a coin. They can grow to be 2 – 10 centimeters in diameter. The red lesions will be a uniform red at first, then the center will start to clear, leaving what could be mistaken for ringworm (a fungal infection).

Eczema is a general term for lesions or rashes on the skin. Nummular eczema is a close relative to atopic dermatitis, asteatotic eczema, and stasis dermatitis. If these lesions are irritated further, they will ‘leak’ and crust over, just making the agony worse.

Nummular eczema is most often found on the legs, also on the torso, arms, and hands. It is more common in men then in women. Between the ages of 55 and 65 men will see it the most, while in women it’s between 15 and 25. Nummular eczema does not discriminate. It is an equal opportunity ailment for all races, and it affects 1 out of ever 500 people.

Medicine has not found a cure for nummular eczema, they are limited to just treating the discomfort. When a weakened immune system is passed down from the parents, nummular eczema (or any eczema for that matter) may lie dormant until it is brought on by a simple insect bite, or a scrape with poison ivy. The infected areas should be kept lubricated with the use of creams, ointments, lotions, and bath oils. Bathing only once a day is recommended more then that makes matters worse. Air or pat dry. Avoid wool and lanolin. If symptoms start to worsen by becoming infected or weepy, topical antibiotics may be used. Severe cases require that oral corticosteroids be taken.

Alternative medicines have done more for the nummular eczema suffer then doctors and drug companies. It is widely agreed upon that the body’s immune system is not strong enough, or has been altered to combat allergens Incorporating fatty 3 acids, and herbal tonics has cleared up many forms of eczema.

Susan Clark wrote Beat Eczema due to her own struggle with this troublesome skin rash. There are different forms of eczema such as nummular eczema, atopic eczema and contact dermatitis. Susan discusses several forms of eczema as well as the treatments that she’s used including steroids and cortisone creams.

Due to the recurrent nature of eczema and the frustrations, she sought for a natural cure. I know that when I had eczema this summer I did not like taking antihistamines all the time for the itching problem. Also the cortisone creams thin your skin and my dermatologist told me one needs to take a break after three weeks before using again.

Susan points out in her book that over eighty percent of kids diagnosed with eczema have high IGE when blood work is taken. This is an antibody that deals with bacteria, viruses and other invaders in the body. Some researchers of atopic dermatitis discuss the lower levels of fatty acids as well as the vulnerability to irritants that the suferers have.

The book on curing eczema addresses diet, supplements as well as various skin products to heal and normalize the skin. She includes recipes for both the skin as well as internal consumption with all natural products. I had noticed for myself that my skin would clear with certain supplements and incorporating various natural foods, but I had no clear system. During the summer I was indiscriminately buying vitamins, herbs and homeopathic products without direction. Susan’s plan puts things together into a coherent plan and approach.

The one turn off I had when deciding to purchase the ebook was that the sales page looked a bit unprofessional. I wasn’t sure if it was a fly by night company, but there was a sixty day money back guarantee so I was re-assured by that. Also, I liked the convenience of an ebook which I can read on the computer or print out. Having a system is important as there are so many different oils to choose from, immune system enhancers and dietary plans that it can become very confusing and expensive otherwise.
