4 Eczema Facts and How to Beat it For Good

eczema cureHere are 4 of the most common eczema facts you need to know in order to understand what it is, the causes, and the best ways to manage and treat it.

What is Eczema?

Eczema is a skin condition that causes inflammation of the skin and can affect all age groups especially children. There are varying degrees of severity from mild forms where the skin is dry, hot and itchy to severe forms where the skin can become raw, broken and bleed.

What Causes Eczema?

There are many eczema causes and it depends on the type of eczema a person has. Atopic eczema seems to be genetically linked and sufferers are sensitive to allergens in the environment which other people are not. This causes the immune system to react producing inflamed, sore and irritated skin. Other types of eczema are caused by irritants such as chemicals and detergents, allergens such as jewelry irritants, and stress.

How do I know if I have Eczema?

Because Eczema is very individualized it is sometimes hard to tell if you have eczema or not. It typically appears on the tender areas of elbows, knees, wrists and neck. In cases especially seen in children it can cover the whole body and face. Hot itchy dry skin is the main symptom. The itching can lead to scratching which will damage the skin and cause bleeding. The dry skin can also crack making movement difficult and sore. Eczema often improves with children as they grow older, although it can reappear at any time and can move in cycles.

How Can You Manage Eczema?

There are many ways to treat the symptoms of Eczema, the foundation of which is an effective skin routine. There are also pills or creams available over the counter, or from your doctor. These can often be strong causing harmful side effects and are not recommended for children. However, there are many ways to minimize the discomfort and distress using natural therapies that a lot of people prefer. These range from diet changes to using natural oils on the affected areas.

Atopic Eczema – 2 Drugs That Treat Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation

eczema curePIH is a problem for some people with eczema. It causes the skin in areas that were inflamed to become a darker skin color than your regular skin hue. PIH can be colored from a slightly darker tinted hue all the way to a darker grey dirty looking brown color. This article will talk about PIH and 2 treatments for it.

Hydroquinone

The more popular treatment for PIH had been hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is a drug that was successful at reducing the rate at which the skin’s melanin cells produced melanin. Melanin is the dye or pigment that gives your skin its color.

What happens in cases of PIH is that the inflammation from the eczema had damaged the melanin cells, and they then produce an off colored pigment or skin color.

Whatever color pigment that the melanin cells produce, is the color that your skin will be. When hydroquinone was being used the drug was usually able to clear up the effects of PIH in less than a year, depending upon the severity of the case. However, the use of the drug has been banned in Europe, Australia and Japan. There are 4 problems that they say they have with hydroquinone.

They say that people who use the drug have higher levels of mercury in their bodies than people who do not use hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is also suspected of causing poisoning in the unborn children of pregnant women. Another danger that is attributed to hydroquinone use is the increased probability of having adrenal glands that function abnormally.

A fifth claim that hydroquinone use causes cancer is denied by researchers at the American Academy of Dermatology. Their claim is that the process of study related to cancer was flawed. They suggest that the cancer experiments were done on laboratory rats that were fed unusually high amounts of the drug for a very long period of time. Furthermore, they stand behind the drug saying that all of the claims are unfounded, and that once the drug is used according to instructions, it is safe for use.

Newer treatments

Since hydroquinone has been banned, the combination of mequinol and tretinoin are being more popularly used for the treatment of PIH. It is not a new treatment in that it was recently discovered, but it is new because it is replacing the other drug that people have come to fear.

Mequinol 2% and tretinoin 0.01% is a mixture that was used for a while to treat PIH in darker skinned people. However, now that hydroquinone is banned its use is becoming less specialized.

Eczema in Children

eczema cureEczema is a skin condition that causes itching, redness , irritation, dryness and inflammation. Eczema can occur in children, and it is actually quite common.  Most kids will experience eczema at one point or another. Most kids’ condition gets better as they age though. Most of the time when a child experiences eczema, it is because something surrounding them caused it, as a result of an allergic reaction. Your child could be suffering from this condition because of the things you are using to do his laundry.

Try using another detergent when you wash their clothes, and see if that helps things clear up a bit.  Make an attempt to take note of the adjustments you make, so you can catch what is causing the problem. If you notice no difference after changing the detergent, then you should continue looking for another cause to the problem. It may even be caused by the clothes themselves, and not just the detergent.

You should remind your children never to scratch or pick at the eczema, for it may become infected. For this reason the severity of the eczema advances a lot faster in children, because they do not realize they are not supposed to be itching. Try to offer incentives to your child for not scratching, and educate them on the dangers of scratching and how it can lead to infection. If you can get your child not to scratch then you have completed the first step in healing their eczema.

The uses of some herbs in your child’s bathwater can help clear up the breakout somewhat. The natural methods of curing eczema are widely seen as far more effective than the medical solutions, which only mask the symptoms for a short period of time, never fixing the problem. Many people who were suffering for a long time with eczema have cured the condition through the use of natural methods.
